South Eastern Coalfields Limited in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district extends help for the treatment of Srishti Rani, daughter of overman Satish Kumar Ravi, who suffers from ‘Spinal Muscular Atrophy’
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district has provided an amount of Rs 16 crore for the treatment of the daughter of one of its employees. SECL officials said here on Saturday that the company has sanctioned an amount of Rs 16 crore for the treatment of a two-year-old daughter of one of its coal miners. The employee was given a check for this amount on Friday. Srishti Rani, daughter of Deepka coalfield overman Satish Kumar Ravi, is suffering from a very rare disease called ‘Spinal Muscular Atrophy’ (SMA), officials said.
Usually, this disease occurs in young children, due to lack of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain stem, the muscles do not work properly and gradually this disease becomes fatal. Its treatment is very expensive and the cost of injection ‘Joljansma’ used in the treatment is Rs 16 crore.
Officials said that now Coal India has approved an amount of Rs 16 crore for the treatment of his family’s daughter. On Friday, a check of Rs 16 crore was presented to Srishti Rani’s father Satish Kumar. He told that Satish was short of money and it was not possible for him to buy injections for the treatment of his daughter at such a high price.
This initiative of SECL has come at a time when the workers working in Coal India and its subsidiaries across the country are working day and night continuously in view of the increasing demand for coal to generate electricity. Korba Lok Sabha constituency MP Jyotsna Charandas Mahant has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi by writing a letter after SECL approved Rs 16 crore for the treatment of the girl child.
