People of Jawahar Nagar Camp have opened a front against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Gogi from Ludhiana district of Punjab. People gheraoed the Police Commissioner’s office today and raised slogans against the MLA and the Aam Aadmi Party government. People allege that at the behest of MLA Gogi, drugs are being sold in their area.

At first the police does not catch any smuggler, if ever anyone is caught, he is released after some time. The residents of the area and SAD leaders today asked the commissioner to send police teams with them, he himself would get the drug smugglers caught. Maninder Singh Goldie, a resident of the area and SAD leader, said that people took out a fury march from ward number 68. Police do not catch drug smugglers.

On the other hand, Balwinder Dulgach, a resident of the area, said that he has staged a sit-in against MLA Gogi because Gogi had promised that he would not allow chitta to be sold in Halka Paschim. Chitta is also being sold openly in Jawahar Nagar Camp, Haibowal, Jain Colony, Ghumar Mandi. AAP government is unable to nab those selling chitta. SAD had closed liquor contracts from the area, but Gogi got them opened.

SAD leader Balwinder Dulgach said that if the MLAs do not come out of their kothi, then they will know how much drug is being sold in which area. The police want to catch the chitta smugglers, but due to political pressure, the accused are not being caught. The legislators of the government are also suppressing the police. In the last few months, 5 to 6 people have also died due to drugs in the area.

Mahila Raj said that children are dying due to drugs, but the government is not doing anything. The government should solve the problems of the people and eliminate Chitta. People also gave a demand letter to Commissioner Kaustubh Sharma. On the other hand, MLA Gurpreet Gogi said that it is easy to make allegations, but difficult to prove. Whatever allegations are being made, they are baseless.

Gogi called ACP Harish Bahl and gave strict orders that drug smugglers should be nabbed. At the same time, the liquor contracts that are opening in the area will be closed. In this matter, I will meet with the Excise Department. On the phone itself, ACP Harish Behl told MLA Gogi that there are no one else but 10 or 20 Akali Dal people who are protesting against drugs.
