Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. All the protected monuments of historical and cultural importance in the country will now be given protection. After the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee, the Ministry of Culture, engaged in the security preparations for these monuments, is currently preparing a new plan regarding this. In this, the responsibility of protecting these monuments is proposed to be given to the firefighters and ex-servicemen. A target has also been set to complete this work in a phased manner in the next few years.

The parliamentary committee had earlier expressed concern over the lack of security at the protected monuments. At the same time, it was recommended to the government to give priority to the security of the monuments.

The committee has stated in its report that at present there are 3,693 centrally protected monuments and museums in the country. Of these, only 248 monuments have security guards posted.

The committee says that budgetary constraints should not be used as an excuse to protect the rich cultural heritage of the country. The government should make security arrangements immediately. Along with this, such sites or buildings should also be protected which are historically and culturally important even though they are not in the list of central monuments.

The Union Culture Ministry has taken this initiative at a time when other ministries and state governments have also announced to give special priority to Agniveers in jobs.
