SP Legislative Council member Swami Prasad Maurya, surrounded by controversies over his remarks on Ramcharitmanas, met Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday. In this meeting, both discussed caste based survey. Let me tell you, today i.e. on January 28, Maurya reached the SP office and held a meeting with the party chief for about 90 minutes. After the meeting, he told PTI that the meeting took place on several issues. He told that in the meeting, caste-based survey was also discussed between the two.
The Samajwadi Party is making a strong demand for a caste-based survey in the state. The SP chief had promised to conduct a caste survey in the state if the party was voted to power during the assembly polls last year. Sometime ago also he said that if his government is formed, the first decision will be taken regarding the caste survey. At the same time, in the last few days, one controversial statement after another has come to the fore regarding Ramcharitmanas.
When Swami Prasad was asked whether there was any discussion about his statements in the meeting, he said, “SP President Akhilesh Yadav will answer this as the Leader of the Opposition in the House.”
Let me tell you, SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya had said, “Dalits and women have been insulted in Ramcharitmanas. Tulsidas wrote it for his pleasure. Crores of people do not read it.” Not only this, he even demanded the government to ban it. Describing Ramcharitmanas as nonsense, Maurya demanded the removal of some verses from it.
Whereas when he had to face strong criticisms, once again he was seen attacking the BJP. The SP leader said, ‘If a person of any other religion had made a statement about cutting someone’s neck or tongue, then the same religious leaders, saints and mahants would have called him a terrorist, but today these people are talking about cutting my head and tongue. Should I not consider them as devils, executioners, terrorists.’
He again pointed finger at Ramcharismanas and said that ‘I have only asked for few lines of Ramcharitmanas and I still stand by my statement. I had talked about some parts of Chaupai of Ramcharitmanas, in which women, tribals and backward castes have been given low status. Abuse can never be a part of religion. I never contradict what I say.
