New Delhi:
Amid demands from some opposition leaders for evidence of the 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistan, Army’s Eastern Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen RP Kalita on Friday said the Army never destroys any evidence while carrying out any operation. Don’t think about keeping it. Refusing to answer a political question from reporters here on the recent demands of some opposition leaders demanding proof of surgical strikes, he said the country trusts Indian forces.
He said that this is a political question. That’s why I don’t like to comment on it. I think the country trusts the Indian Armed Forces. When asked whether the army kept any evidence during the operation, he replied in the negative. When we go for any campaign, we do not keep any evidence of that campaign. Let us inform that senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh had recently expressed doubts over the cross-border military operation during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi in Jammu.
He had said that the Center talks about surgical strikes and killing many people, but there is no evidence of this. They are ruling by showing a bundle of lies. The Congress, however, distanced itself from the remarks and said that it does not reflect its stand and the party supports all military actions in the interest of the country.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had termed Singh’s comments as “ridiculous” and said the armed forces were doing their job in an “extraordinary manner” and did not need to provide any proof.
