Assam floods: Six more killed, over 7.2 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam worsened on Sunday and six more people, including two children, died. More than 7.2 lakh people are affected due to inundation in 22 districts of the state.

According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), four people were submerged in water in Kampur revenue area of ​​Nagaon district.

The report said that one person in Duboka in Hojai district and a child in Silchar in Cachar district died due to the floods.

The death toll in Assam this year due to floods and landslides has risen to 24.

The authority said that due to floods in many districts, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Darrang, Gwalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuri, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Udalguri etc. ,19,540 people are affected. Nagaon is badly affected due to inundation where 3.46 lakh people are in distress. After this, 2.29 lakh people are affected in Cachar and more than 58 thousand people in Hojai.

The authority said that at present 2095 villages are submerged in water, while standing crops in an area of ​​95,473.51 hectares have been destroyed.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma on Sunday said that he held talks with Alka Upadhyay, Chairperson, National Highways Authority of India in New Delhi on the issues related to National Highways in the northeastern state. He tweeted, “I emphasize on urgent repair of flood and landslide affected National Highways and timely completion of existing projects.”
