Bharat Gaurav train will give boost to tourism: Railways will run 180 new trains, private companies will be able to take it on lease; Facilities like local transport, hotel for passengers

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday announced the launch of ‘Bharat Gaurav’ trains to promote tourism. Under this, more than 180 Bharat Gaurav trains will be run in the country. The special thing is that private players will also be able to take these trains on lease. Trains can be run on any circuit of your choice. You will also be able to decide the route, fare and quality of service of the train.

Another new segment in train service
The Railway Minister said, ‘Bharat Gaurav is another new segment in the train service. There are so many cultural heritages in our country. These trains will take tourists to these cultural heritage places. The main objective of the trains is to promote tourism. Let us inform that earlier the passenger and freight segment has also been started.

Allocation of more than 180 trains
The Railway Minister said, ‘We have allocated more than 180 trains for Bharat Gaurav trains. Of these, there will be 3033 coaches. The process of application for the operation of trains has also started. We have got a good response. He said, ‘Stakeholders will modify and run the train. The railways will help them in maintenance, parking and other facilities.

Railway is continuously increasing the train facilities.  The new Vistadome Coaches are a great example of this.

Process to lease Bharat Gaurav Train

  • Individual, Partnership Firm, Company, Society, Trust, JV/ Consortium (Unincorporated/ Incorporated) are eligible to apply.
  • To take the train on lease, one has to register with a one time fee of Rs 1 lakh.
  • Coaches will be allotted to all eligible applicants on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Preference will be given on the basis of time and date of security deposit.
  • Operators will have to deposit a security deposit of Rs 1 crore per rake.
  • Trains can be taken on lease for 2-10 years.
  • Railways will charge only haulage charge and right to use fee.
  • Railway Special Unit will be set up for the convenience of the operators.
  • Operators will be allowed to have branding and advertising inside and outside the trains.
Preparations are being made to increase luxury facilities like Pod Hotel on Mumbai Central.

  • Each train will have 14-20 coaches including two guard vans.
  • Passengers will have a choice of luxury, budget coaches.
  • Train operators will have to provide sightseeing, food, local transport, hotel facilities at stopover places.
  • The operator will also have to provide facilities like onboard entertainment under this.
