When the tradition of halwa ceremony broke
Before the finalization of budget documents, there is a tradition of halwa ceremony. It is celebrated in the finance ministry inside the north block as the beginning of printing of documents related to the general budget.
It happened for the first time in the history of independent India during the Corona period that the traditionally celebrated Halwa Ceremony was not celebrated. Instead, sweets were distributed among the employees and the budget was prepared in paperless mode. However, this time also a paperless budget is being prepared.
However, on 26 January another Halwa ceremony was held. Continuing this tradition, the budget process was started by serving halwa.
What is Halwa Ceremony?
It is a belief in India that before doing any auspicious work, the mouth is sweetened. In the same way, the mouth of all the employees is sweetened by organizing Halwa ceremony before the budget. This also supports the hard work of the employees of the Ministry of Finance. The Halwa ceremony is held after the preparation of the budget and before its presentation. To maintain the secrecy of the budget, the staff involved in the preparation of the budget stay in the basement of the North Block after the Halwa ceremony.
