New Delhi, Lifestyle Desk. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Carpal tunnel syndrome is excruciating pain arising in the hand and wrist. The carpal tunnel is a narrow tube formed by the bones and other cells of the wrist. This tube protects our median nerve. The median nerve is connected to our thumb, middle and ring fingers.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is normal in onset but if left untreated, can cause numbness, tingling, and pain in the arm and forearm. This condition occurs when one of the major nerves in the hand—the median nerve—becomes compressed while traveling through the wrist.

Cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

– genetics

– diabetes

– thyroid problem

– high blood pressure

– Any injury or fracture to the wrist

Autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis

Tumor growing inside the wrist.

– obesity

– excessive consumption of alcohol

– Excessive use of keyboard or mouse

– Typing.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Numbness, tingling and pain in the thumb and fingers of the hand.

Feeling of pain in the shoulders and elbows along with the fingers.

Problems while holding things by hand.

Difficulty in lifting heavy objects.

Weakness in arm muscles.

Problems with coordination in one or both hands.

Burning sensation in the fingers, especially in the index and middle fingers. This burning gradually turns into pain.

If you have a continuous seating job, then take small breaks in between. So that each and every muscle of the body can do its work properly.

Rotate the wrists and exercise the palms and fingers.

Avoid sleeping on hand.
