Case of 12 May 2017 in Sidgora: 25 years imprisonment to the rapist, also order to give one lakh to the victim

The court of ADJ-One Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay on Thursday sentenced Vipul Sharma, resident of Jugsalai Girls School Road, and Shubhankar Das of Kadma ECC flat, to 25 years imprisonment in the case of escaping and gang-raping a 15-year-old minor from Sidgora. Both have been fined Rs 50,000. Along with this, the court has ordered to pay one lakh rupees to the victim. In case of non-payment of one lakh rupees, the term of punishment will increase for a further period of five years. Both the sentences will run concurrently. Additional Public Prosecutor Rajiv Kumar said that a total of 7 people had testified in the case. The incident happened three years ago, but the matter reached the police station on 12 May 2017.

Exactly three years ago, accused Vipul had kept her in Girls School Road after taking her away in the name of marriage. Here he used to physically abuse his friend Shubhankar. Meanwhile, she gave birth to a baby girl. When the minor could not be tolerated, she went to her maternal home. After getting information about the cruelty of the girl’s family, the minor was married at another place, after which both the accused reached there as well. Forcibly raped and burnt the whole body with a cigarette and fled with her husband’s bike, then the matter reached the police station.
