New Delhi, Auto Desk. Jeep just yesterday launched its new Meridian SUV, which is offered in two trims- Limited and Limited (O). In the 7-seater segment, this SUV is being seen as a rival to the already existing Toyota Fortuner in the market. So today we are going to do a comparison of these two models, so that the better one can be selected.
You get a new front fascia and bumper in the facelift version of the Toyota Fortuner. Also, you get to see dual-tone alloy wheels on the side of the LED headlights, which look great. Apart from this, halogen light is available at the rear along with the new taillight design at the rear. On the other hand, the Maridian gets LED projector headlights with integrated LED DRL and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The front bumper also gets LED fog lamps with cornering function.
Coming to the cabin features of the Maridian, the entire dashboard design is similar to that of the Compass, except for the ‘Emparador’ brown seats with black dashboard, steering wheel and door panels. Features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen system with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, while on the dashboard you get a brand new larger 8-inch touchscreen that now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto . Along with this, JBL’s sound system and ventilated front seats have been given in the new Fortuner.
In terms of engine and performance, the company has given a 2.7-litre petrol engine in the Fortuner which comes with manual or automatic transmission options. At the same time, there is also the option of a 2.8-litre diesel engine in two- and four-wheel drive options, in which you can choose between manual and automatic. In terms of performance, it is powered by a 2,694 cc 4-cylinder inline, DOHC engine that is capable of generating 168 bhp power and 245 Nm peak torque. On the other hand, you get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Multijet turbo-diesel engine in the Meridian, which is capable of producing 172hp of maximum power and 350Nm of torque. In its transmission options, you get to see a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic unit.
Talking about the price, the Jeep Meridian has been launched at a starting price of Rs 29.90 lakh, which goes up to Rs 36.95 lakh for the top model. At the same time, the Fortuner comes with a starting price of Rs 31.79 lakh. In this way, the Fortuner proves to be a bit expensive in terms of price.
