The Congress has also planned to reserve 50 per cent of all party posts for SC-ST, OBC and minorities.
The Congress has taken a big decision in the ongoing Chintan Shivir in Udaipur, Rajasthan, accepting the important demand of the disgruntled leaders of the party. The party has accepted the demand to constitute the Congress Parliamentary Board. However, to implement this decision would require the approval of the Congress Working Committee, which is the party’s top decision-making body. Whether elections will be held for this or its members will be nominated by the Congress President, the issue is left to the committee. This was an important demand of the leaders of the dissatisfied faction of the Congress and the parliamentary board would replace the election committee. It will select candidates in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Sources say that those close to the Gandhi family were adamant that the proposal related to the Congress Parliamentary Board could not be approved and there was a tussle within the party regarding this.
On the question of alliance with other parties of the 137 year old party, it has been decided that alliances should be made at the state level with other parties. From parties that are not associated with BJP. However, the big question remains on the issue of leadership, as Rahul Gandhi has not given any indication that he will contest for the post of party president. This election is to be held at the end of this year. The Congress has also planned to reserve 50 per cent of all party posts for SC-ST, OBC and minorities.
