New Delhi [एएनआइ]। Former Union Minister and Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, referring to India’s years-old relationship with Russia, said that there were tensions with America but our relations with Moscow were never tense like this. He said that ever since the BJP government came to power at the Centre, relations between India and Russia have soured. Russia has a long-standing relationship with India.

Iyer was addressing a program organized by the India Russia Friendship Society at the Russian Center on Feroz Shah Road on Monday. The Congress leader said that Russia has always stood in our sorrows. We have to strengthen historical and much-needed ties with Russia. He discussed in detail the India-Russia relations during the Congress period. Told that due to the efforts of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, all kinds of relations of Russia with us were strengthened. He further said that the Soviet Union has been a close friend of India during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Congress leader said, ‘Indira had become a Russian name. Many girls were named Indira and in Uzbekistan this was seen the most.

Former MP Jaiprakash Agrawal presiding over the program said that the contribution of Indira Gandhi in the development of India cannot be forgotten. Many people including Major Dalbir Singh, Ashutosh Nidhi, Sargai Korolev, Dr. RB Singh, Dr. Bharat Jha were present in the program.
