The third wave of Kovid is going on in the district. In the first and second wave, the figures of coming infected and the death of the infected have been seen breaking. But the infection rate in the third wave can be higher than in the first and second wave. In the first wave, peak 534 cases and 27 infected have died in the district on a single day. At the same time, on the peak day of the second wave, we have seen 1880 infected and 46 deaths in a single day. But the infection rate in the third wave may break the records of both the earlier waves.
The first wave had a 10 per cent infection rate on the day of peak and 4.3 per cent on the day of 27 deaths. While the infection rate was 18.68% on the second peak day and 2.88% on the day of 46 deaths. The highest number of cases in the third wave so far, 868, has come and the infection rate was 18%. According to Professor Dr. Clarence J. Samuel, Department of Community Medicine, CMC, the peak of the third wave is likely to come after January 26. Which will last for two weeks. After this the cases will start declining completely. This increase occurs only because of the virus being mutated.
49 health workers, 8 pregnant also infected, active case 4870
On Thursday, the report of 755 infected in the district has been positive. Of these, 670 belong to Ludhiana and 85 to other districts and states. While two patients have died. Among them, a woman (45) from Shimlapuri, Ludhiana, and the other patient belonged to Pathankot. The report of Dr. SP Singh, Civil Surgeon of the district, his wife and Pathologist of Civil Hospital Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, DIO Dr. Manisha has also been found positive. The report of ACS Dr. Vivek Kataria also came positive 4 days ago. On Thursday, the infection rate was recorded at 11.43 percent. Of the patients found positive on Thursday, 43 infected, 49 health workers and 8 pregnant patients were reported positive for contact with positive patients. While reports of 2 police personnel, 48 patients of OPD, 377 patients of ILI have also been positive. Till Thursday there were 4870 active cases.
50432 sampling was done in January
In 2020, cases started increasing in July. From July to December, 25887 were infected and 950 died. Whereas during this 505090 samples were taken. During the second wave, it peaked till March-June. During this 1048676 samples were taken. Out of which 67194 were found infected. Whereas a total of 1585 died during these four months. So far in January, 5550 infected have been found in a sampling of 50432 and 17 have died. Vaccination will be done at 170 session sites in the district today.
