India scored 258 for the loss of 4 wickets on the first day of the first test match against New Zealand. The Indian team was at one point in trouble after losing four wickets for 145 runs. From there, Shreyas Iyer, playing his debut Test, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took over the innings. Iyer is unbeaten on 75 and Jadeja on 50. Veteran commentator Sushil Doshi described the first day’s play in India’s favour. He also pulled up some of the legendary players of Team India.

Expected to bat better from Pujara and Rahane
Doshi said Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane disappointed in the first day’s play. Both of them are senior players of India and in the absence of legends like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, they are expected to strengthen the team with their game. But, both the batsmen looked under pressure. Pujara is known for his strong technique but that was not visible in the first day’s play. If Pujara and Rahane do not return to form soon, then many batsmen of the younger generation are standing in line to take their place.

New Zealand looked strong on paper
Doshi said that if the two teams were compared before the start of the match, then on paper New Zealand looked stronger and more balanced. All its legends including Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are playing in this match. At the same time, about half a dozen regular players of India are resting. Despite this, the young Indian team showed the fighting ability and managed to get a mental edge over New Zealand in the first day’s play.

Jamieson’s bowling is commendable
The veteran commentator heaped praise on New Zealand’s young fast bowler Kyle Jamieson. He said- Jameson takes full advantage of his height and in this match he proved that he can perform well on Indian pitches as well. They will come back on the attack with the new ball on the second day. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how the rest of India’s batsmen now face them.
