On May 11, gold worth about 1 crore 28 lakh has been recovered at Trichy International Airport. Which was smuggled and brought to India from Dubai via Sharjah. In this case, the customs department has arrested 3 air passengers. This gold was kept hidden in a cavity built under the keypad of the laptop. On the basis of suspicion, the luggage of the passengers is being checked. Now the inquiry is going on in this matter.
Earlier, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered 15.93 kg of gold worth Rs 8.38 crore from the Indo-Myanmar border on May 12 under Operation “Gold on Highway”. Which was smuggled here in Dimapur and Guwahati. Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI officials kept a watch on two oil tankers and a truck going from Manipur to Guwahati. In the early hours of 12 May 2022, these vehicles were stopped simultaneously on the National Highway between Dimapur and Guwahati.
After checking the seized vehicles, 96 gold biscuits weighing 15.93 kg have been recovered. Which were carefully hidden in different parts of the three vehicles. In this operation, five people of the syndicate have been arrested and three vehicles have been seized. Further investigation is on.
