Delhi: 27 killed in Mundka fire, 25 dead not yet identified, two arrested – 10 big things

At least 27 people were killed and 12 others were injured when a fire broke out in a four-storey commercial building located near the Mundka metro station in the western part of the national capital on Friday evening. Police sources said the fire started from the first floor of the building, where the office of the company manufacturing CCTV cameras and routers was located.

At least 27 people were killed and 12 others were injured when a fire broke out in a four-storey commercial building located near the Mundka metro station in the western part of the national capital on Friday evening. Police sources said that 25 bodies have not been identified so far. On the other hand NDRF is still running search operation there. According to the police, 28 people have been reported missing. The fire started from the first floor of the building, where the office of the company manufacturing CCTV cameras and routers was located. Gradually this fire spread to the second and third floors as well. More than 30 fire engines were pressed into service to douse the fire. This building did not have NOC from the fire department.

Important information related to the case:

  1. Delhi Police has registered a case under section 304/308/120/34 of IPC in Mundka Firing case. The arrested owners of the company, Varun and Harish Goyal’s father Amarnath Goyal have also died in the fire. Motivational speech was going on when the fire broke out. Amarnath was present there. Caught in the fire and could not get out. Due to this, he got very burnt and he died in the hospital.

  2. In this three-storey building, there was a manufacturing unit on the first floor, while on the second floor there was a warehouse and on the third floor there was a lab. The highest number of deaths have been reported so far on the second floor. Motivational speech was going on on the second floor at the time of the accident. Due to this program more people were present there.

  3. The landlord had built a small flat on the roof of the building. The Fire Department and NDRF have started their search operation again in the morning. Three-four people are still feared trapped in the building.

  4. According to the police, the owners of the company- Harish Goyal and Varun Goel have been arrested. However, the landlord is absconding. He has been identified as Manish Lakra. According to the police, he lived on the topmost floor of the building. A case has been registered against him under sections of the Indian Penal Code.

  5. Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg said that no firefighters were injured in the operation. He said that till the first morning, six fire tenders were stationed at the spot. According to the police, the information about the fire was received at 4.45 pm on Friday, after which more than 30 fire tenders were sent to the spot. The fire broke out in a commercial building near pillar number 544 of Mundka metro station.

  6. During initial interrogation, the police came to know that office space was provided to the companies in the four-storey building. He told that there was a company’s office in the first floor and more than 50 of its employees were safely evacuated, while the bodies of 27 people have been recovered.

  7. Some ambulances were also present at the spot to provide immediate medical care to the rescued people. A senior fire brigade official said the fire was brought under control at around 11 pm but the refrigeration operation is on.

  8. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have condoled the loss of lives due to the fire. Kovind said that he is deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the fire in the building. He has expressed condolences to the families of the victims. “I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Kovind tweeted. I am very sad. My condolences to the families of the victims. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.

  9. PM Modi tweeted and said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the Delhi fire incident. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.” He said that from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, an amount of two lakh rupees each will be given to the dependents of those who lost their lives in this accident and fifty-fifty thousand rupees to the injured.

  10. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the accident and said that he is in constant touch with the authorities. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has also expressed grief over the incident. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed grief over the death of several people in the fire incident in Delhi and wished the scorched people a speedy recovery. He tweeted, ‘Saddened by the death of many people in the fire accident near Mundka in Delhi. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
