Jagran Team, Jammu-Samba: Renowned Dogri poet, lyricist Sitaram Sapolia passed away at the age of 83. He had been ill for the past few months. His last rites were performed in his native village Diani on Saturday. Apart from family members, many dignitaries, poets, litterateurs, artists attended the ceremony. Condoling his death, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted and said that Dogri has lost a great poet. At the same time, DC Samba Dr. Anuradha Gupta also expressed condolences and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

Sitaram Sapolia was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Samman for his Doha Satsai in the year 2013. Apart from the Jammu and Kashmir Kala, Sanskriti and Bhasha Akademi, he was honored by many literary and cultural organizations. He has also been awarded the title of Pride of Samba. His poems, songs, bhajans have made a special identity in the Dogra society. Many of his articles and poems have been broadcast from the radio. Many of his couplets, articles have been published in Shiraz published by the Academy. Writers, artists, literature lovers have condoled the death of Sitaram Sapolia. Sapolia was born on 22 November 1938 in a small village Diyani in Samba district in a simple family. Many poets including famous poet Bishan Singh Dardi, Mohan Singh Salathia, President of Namin Dogri Sanstha Harish Kaila, Dr. Sushma Rani have expressed deep grief over his death. The litterateurs said that Dogri poetry has suffered a great loss due to the death of Sapolia. He prepared new poets who would follow the path shown by him.
