Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in Baidposi village of Mayurganj district of Odisha. His father’s name is Biranchi Narayan Tudu. She belongs to the tribal ethnic group, the Santhals. Draupadi’s childhood was spent in poverty and difficulties. In such a situation, Draupadi has worked as a junior assistant in the Irrigation and Power Department of Odisha from 1979 to 1983. From 1994 to 1997, he taught children without pay as Honorary Assistant Teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Center, Rairangpur.
Murm was elected MLA from Rairangpur seat on BJP ticket in 2000 and 2004. She has also been in the National Executive of BJP ST Morcha. In the year 2007, Draupadi was awarded the Best MLA of the Year Award from the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
She has been a minister in the BJD and BJP coalition government in Odisha. He was the commerce and transport of the state from March 2000 to 2004 and held the post of Minister of Fish and Animal Resource Development. Draupadi Murm was the first governor of Jharkhand, who completed a five-year term after the state’s formation in the year 2000. He held the post of Governor of Jharkhand from the year 2015 to 2021.
