Assembly Election in 3 States of North East: Assembly elections are going to be held for the first time this year in the three states of the Northeast. one of the states Tripura is also. Tripura has come up with a ‘vote-from-home’ option where senior citizens and differently-abled people can cast their votes from their homes.

As soon as the dates for the assembly elections for Tripura were announced, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said, “Senior citizens and persons with disabilities will have the option to cast their vote from home”. Assembly elections will be held on February 16, 2023.

Vote-from-home option

The vote-from-home option can be exercised only by senior citizens above 80 years of age. The CEO further emphasized on fair and transparent polling and informed that adequate number of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs) have been deployed ahead of the upcoming elections. State Chief Election Commissioner said,

“Capfs in adequate numbers have reached Tripura and flag marches and night patrolling are also being carried out. We want fair, transparent and peaceful elections. Senior citizens above 80 years of age and persons with disabilities have the option to vote from home Will happen.”.

Tripura elections to be held on February 16

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on 18 January that Tripura will go to polls in a single phase. February 16 Will vote on The counting of votes and results will be declared on March 2.

Political Scenario in Tripura

On 15 May 2022, Manik Saha was sworn in after Biplab Kumar Deb resigned from the post ahead of the state assembly elections. Saha is the 11th Chief Minister of Tripura to take oath as the CM. “We will move forward by pursuing the strategy of development and we will work for the people of Tripura,” he assured after taking the oath.

In Tripura’s 60-seat assembly, the BJP has a majority with 33 seats. The saffron party is currently ruling the state with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) (5 seats) as its ally. The opposition Congress has one MLA and the CPI(M) 15, while five seats are vacant.
