Former Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident on Sunday afternoon. The accident happened on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Mistry was returning from a Parsi temple built in Udvada, Gujarat. According to the police, the Mercedes GLC 220 car of 54-year-old Mistry collided with a road divider on the bridge of Surya river in Charoti village near Kasa in Palghar. The Mercedes airbags also opened after the collision, but two people, including Mistry, died. There were a total of four people in the car.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the Mercedes lost control of the car. After that she collided with the road divider. Police have released the details of the people in the Mercedes car. Along with Cyrus Mistry, Jahangir Dinsha Pandole also lost his life in the accident. At the same time, Anayata Pandole (female) and her husband Daryas Pandole were injured. Anayata is a doctor in Mumbai and she was driving the car. Her husband Darius Pandole is the CEO of JM Financial. Jahangir Pandole was the father of Darius. The post-mortem of the bodies will be done at JJ Hospital.
The accident happened at 3.30 pm on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.
Palghar SP Balasaheb Patil said – The number of the car in which Mistry was traveling is MH-47-AB-6705. The accident happened at around 3.30 pm on the bridge of Surya river on the way from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Two people died in the accident, while the other two were injured. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the accident.

Mistry used to bear the expenses of Parsi temple of Udwara

Studied Engineering and Management from London
Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was born on 4 July 1968. He was the younger son of Pallonji Mistry, the head of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Cyrus did her early schooling from the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. After this he went to London to study civil engineering. He also had a Master’s degree in Management from the London Business School.
Cyrus joined his family business in 1991. He was appointed as the Director of Shapoorji Pallonji Group in 1994. Under his leadership the company built India’s tallest residential tower, longest railway bridge and largest port. Pallonji Group’s business spans from clothing to real estate, hospitality and business automation.
Cyrus Mistry was the sixth group chairman of the Tata Group
In December 2012, Ratan Tata took retirement as the chairman of Tata Sons. After that Cyrus Mistry was made the chairman of Tata Sons. Cyrus Mistry was the sixth group chairman in Tata’s more than 150-year history. He was also the youngest chairman of Tata Sons.
Mistry family holds 18% stake in Tata Sons
Cyrus’ father Pallonji Mistry retired from the Tata Group’s board in 2006, after which Cyrus Mistry took his place. Pallonji Mistry was the largest shareholder of the Tata Group. The Mistry family still holds an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons. He is the second largest shareholder in Tata Sons after Tata Trusts.
Was removed from office on 24 October 2016
However, within four years, on 24 October 2016, Tata Sons removed him from the post of chairman. Ratan Tata was made the interim chairman in his place. After this, on 12 January 2017, N Chandrasekaran was made the chairman of Tata Sons. Regarding this controversy, Tata Sons had said that Mistry’s way of working was not matching with the way Tata Sons worked. Because of this, the board members had lost faith in Mistry.
