Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has given a big statement regarding his own party. Terming the defeat in the by-elections in the state as a ‘timely alert’ incident for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), CM Thakur said that it should not be seen as a final assessment of his government. . At the same time, he also said that the party was disappointed by “overconfidence”. In the recently held by-elections in the state, the BJP lost in Arki, Fatehpur and Jubbal-Kotkhai assembly seats and also in Mandi Lok Sabha seat.

In the 2019 general elections, the party won the Mandi seat by a huge margin. Thakur said that there were several reasons behind the party’s defeat in these by-polls, which required a deeper analysis. Jai Ram Thakur, in an interview to news agency PTI, said, “There could be many reasons for this defeat, but there was overconfidence in the party workers, for which we had to pay a heavy price in these by-elections. But just a year before the assembly elections, it is a timely alert for us and now we will gear up and work hard to win.” On speculations about a possible change of leadership in the state government, Thakur said that he has been hearing such rumors since the beginning of his tenure as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

He said, “I have been hearing rumors and speculations about changing the chief minister in Himachal Pradesh from the very beginning. But one thing I can say with full confidence is that manipulations do not work in the BJP, especially under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Till now we had won all the bypolls in the state and the result of this bypoll should not be seen as the final assessment of my government.” Let us tell you that the assembly elections are to be held in Himachal Pradesh in the beginning of next year i.e. 2022.
