New Delhi, Agencies: In a bureaucratic reshuffle at the top level, the Center on Thursday moved 13 IAS officers in various ministries and departments. Senior IAS officers Sunil Barthwal and Vivek Bhardwaj were on Thursday appointed commerce secretary and mines secretary respectively. Barthwal, a 1989 batch officer of Bihar cadre, is currently the Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

In an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, it has been said that he has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Commerce with immediate effect. Barthwal will take over as commerce secretary replacing BVR Subramaniam, who is retiring on September 30. Subramaniam, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organization. His post will be of the rank of Secretary to the Government of India. In place of Barthwal, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals, Aarti Ahuja will be Secretary, Labor and Employment.

Arun Baroka, Special Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, has been made the new Chemicals and Petro-Chemical Secretary in place of Ahuja. Vivek Bhardwaj, a 1990 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, will be the new Mines Secretary when Alok Tandon retires later this month. Mukhmeet Singh Bhatia, Director General, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, has been appointed as the Secretary, Minority Affairs.

Arun Singhal, Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will be Secretary in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Anjali Bhavra, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. Rajesh Agarwal has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Rajesh Kumar Singh as Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. TR Ahuja will take over as Secretary, Ministry of Labor and Employment while Vijay Kumar Singh has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare.
