Due to which Hardik Pandya was handed over the captaincy of the team for the first ODI. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, who will open with Shubman Gill and how will be the playing XI of the team?
Rohit Sharma will not be available for the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium due to family reasons. This will be Hardik’s first ODI as captain. However, he is taking regular command of the team in T20. He has also been appointed as the vice-captain for the remaining two ODIs. There have been four ODIs between India and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium so far, out of which Australia has been successful in winning three.
Team India’s winning streak in the last 6 matches
The Indian team has defeated the Australia team 2-1 in the four-Test series and has qualified for the final of the World Test Championship to be held in June. This ODI series is important for the ODI World Cup to be hosted by India in October-November this year. Earlier, India had won the ODI series played against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Team India has not faced defeat since the last six matches and Team India would like to maintain this winning streak even further.
Shubman Gill will open the innings for India. In such a situation, it is bound to arise that who will open the innings with Gill in the absence of Rohit Sharma. It is believed that Ishan Kishan will be given a chance to open with Gill and KL Rahul will come to bat in the middle order. Veteran batsman Virat Kohli has also left behind his bad phase with the white ball. Known as Runmachine, Virat has scored 338 runs in six matches at an average of 67.60 and is expected to add to his tally of 75 centuries in international cricket.
Talking about bowling, there is also doubt on which spinner will be given a place in India’s playing XI between Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Both the spinners are the main weapons of the Indian bowling attack. Both are capable of taking wickets and have a good record with the white ball as well. However, the current squad against Australia has four spinners. It will be interesting to see who among Chahal, Kuldeep and Washington Sundar gets a chance. Along with the beautiful ball, he can also show wonders with the bat. Ravindra Jadeja’s playing is considered almost certain.
