IND vs NZ ODI Series: India has become the number one ranked team in the ODI format after India clean swept New Zealand 3-0 in the three-day ODI series between India and New Zealand. India beat New Zealand by 90 runs in the 3rd ODI, that is on Tuesday (January 24) at Indore. After this victory, Team India has now reached the first position in the ICC ODI rankings. Captain Rohit Sharma played a brilliant century innings (101) for India and Shubman Gill scored 112 runs to set a mammoth target of 386 runs in front of the Kiwis.
Chasing a mammoth target of 386, the Kiwis got off to a shaky start as Finn Allen (0) was bowled in the very first over of the innings. However, after this Henry Nicholls (42) and Devon Conway handled the innings and continued to play as per the requirement. New Zealand completed 100 runs in 14 overs. But soon Henry Nicholls was caught in the spin by Kuldeep Yadav.
After this, Darrell Mitchell (24) tried to support Conway, who was batting well, but in the 26th over, Shardul Thakur took 2 wickets in 2 consecutive balls and pushed the Kiwi team to the backfoot. He made Mitchell and Captain Tom Latham their victims. Umran Malik dismissed Devon Conway (138), who had scored a century, and turned the match completely in favor of India.
What did captain Rohit Sharma say after the victory?
After clean sweeping New Zealand in the ODI series, captain Rohit Sharma said that we did most of the things according to the plan in the last ODIs. We were able to adjust well with bat and ball. In this ODI, apart from Siraj and Shami, we wanted to give chances to other players as well. We wanted to bring Chahal and Umran together and put them under pressure. We got runs on the board, but nobody is totally safe on a ground like this. We stuck to our strategy. Shardul has been doing this for some time, so some people call him ‘magician’. Whenever I have given the ball to Kuldeep, he has brought wickets.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played century innings for India. At the same time, Hardik Pandya also scored an excellent half-century. Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy took three wickets each for New Zealand. At the same time, Devon Conway scored a century for New Zealand. Apart from this, no batsman could even score a half-century. Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each for India.
