India said on Thursday that officials of the Indian Embassy in Qatar have met eight former Indian Navy personnel detained there in the past for the third time and are regularly taking up the issue with the Qatari authorities. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said in the weekly press conference that we are aware of the matter of Indians being detained in Qatar. We have continuously taken up this matter with the administration there. He said, “This week we again got consular access to the Indians detained there. This time a lawyer had also gone.

He said that the officials of the Indian Embassy met the detained Indians, their well-being is to be known. The spokesperson said that this is the third time that consular access has been granted to meet ex-Navy personnel. He said that the ministry is regularly taking up this issue with the Qatari administration. Earlier this month some family members of these Indians had also gone there and met them.

Recently, when the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs was asked about the reasons for the detention of these Indian nationals, the spokesperson had said that the Qatar administration should be asked about the reasons for their detention or arrest and about it Only they can tell better.
