Indian Railways has run Ramayana Express for the devotees who have faith in Lord Shri Ram. IRCTC has run Deluxe AC Tourist Train under the initiative of ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ to promote religious tourism. But this train is currently surrounded by controversies.

The train got embroiled in controversies regarding the dress code of its service staff. Actually, the dress of the service staff working in this train was in saffron color. The saints of Ujjain had objected to this and warned that if the dress of the service staff of the train was not changed, then they would stop the Ramayana Express in Delhi on 12 December. In the first day, angry sages called it an insult to Hinduism.

The Indian Railways on Monday changed the uniform of its serving employees after saints objected to the saffron dress of the waiters on the Ramayana Express.

Indian Railways said in a statement that “It is informed that the professional dress of the service staff has been completely changed. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

The dress of the staff has been changed to the traditional hat with the usual shirt and pants. However, the waiters will continue to wear saffron masks and gloves.

Awadheshpuri, former general secretary of Ujjain Akhara Parishad, was quoted by PTI as saying, “We had written a letter to the Union Railway Minister two days ago registering our protest against the waiters serving refreshments and food in saffron-coloured Ramayana Express. Wearing saffron attire is a Hindu religion. And it is an insult to his saints.” He further said that “we will sit on the railway tracks. This is necessary to protect the Hindu religion.”
