Kolkata Knight Riders kept their playoff claim alive with a thumping win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. Batting first, KKR scored 177 runs for the loss of 6 wickets on the basis of the fast innings played by Andre Russell in the end. In reply, Hyderabad team could only score runs.

The Kolkata team maintained its playoff claim by showing a great game in the do or die match. The team that landed in the match against Hyderabad was in danger of being knocked out of the tournament if they did not win. Shreyas Iyer’s team won the match by showing a strong game and increased the problems of Hyderabad team. Now Kolkata can reach 14 points and fight with the rest of the teams on the basis of net rain rate.

Kolkata in playoff race

After playing 13 matches, Kolkata now have 12 points from 6 wins against Hyderabad. Prior to this match, the team had 10 points in their account and a defeat meant an out of the tournament. Now Kolkata has to play the next match against Lucknow Super Giants on 18 May. With a win here, the team will have 14 points and if given a chance to go to the playoffs on the basis of net run rate, then they will be able to present their claim.

Hyderabad’s work spoiled

Hyderabad’s defeat against Kolkata has made the team’s way to the playoffs difficult. The team, which has won 5 consecutive victories after 2 losses in the tournament, has now faced defeat in the last five matches. After 12 matches the team has 10 points from 5 wins. After winning against Kolkata, the team had a chance to reach 16 points but now if they win the next two matches, they will be able to reach only 14 points.
