Bhubaneswar, PTI. The 12th Junior Hockey World Cup is being organized in India. Odisha has been given the responsibility of hosting the tournament. Hosts India started the tournament against France on Wednesday. Team India had to face defeat even after showing a good game in its first match. India are placed in Group B along with Poland, Canada and France.

Despite vice-captain Sanjay’s hat-trick, title-contenders India were thrashed 5-4 by France in a Pool B match of the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup here on Wednesday. For France, captain Timothy Clement (1st, 23rd and 32nd) scored a hat-trick while Benjamin Markey (7th) and Corentin Cellier (48th) scored two other goals for the 26th-ranked side in the world rankings.

Sanjay (15th, 57th, 58th) converted three penalty corners for defending champions India while Uttam Singh (10th minute) scored the other goal for the hosts. After falling three goals, India stepped up the attack in the French camp and got penalty corners in the 57th and 58th minutes, with Sanjay converting both of them into India’s hopes. In the last one and a half minutes, the team made some more attempts, but without success.
