Maharashtra political crisis: Rebel Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde showed strength with 42 MLAs and released the first group photo from Guwahati hotel. In the video, all the MLAs were seen sitting together and raising slogans of ‘Shinde saab you go ahead, we are with you’.
Of the 42 rebels from Maharashtra seen together at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati, 35 are from the Shiv Sena, and 7 are independent MLAs. It is worth noting that this has added to the troubles of the Uddhav Thackeray government. There are only 13 loyal MLAs present in Matoshree.
Shinde now has complete control over the party. He needed the support of only 37 MLAs to circumvent the anti-defection law and avoid disqualification. Sources in the Eknath Shinde camp have also revealed that the rebels have enough numbers to be recognized as the core faction of the Shiv Sena. With a strong majority, Shinde’s army can now use the whip (Bharat Gogawale) to force the rest of the MLAs like Aaditya Thackeray and others to vote according to their line. If they do not follow the line, they may face action.
Maharashtra political crisis
The Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra ran into trouble when senior minister Eknath Shinde led a rebellion within the Shiv Sena, demanding that the party break ties with the NCP and Congress and with its former ally – the BJP. Must shake hands. However, the standoff continues as the CM of Maharashtra has refused to accede to the demand. At present, Shinde claims to have the support of more than 37 Shiv Sena MLAs.
In a Facebook Live address on Wednesday, Thackeray offered to resign provided a Shiv Sena MLA also returned to Mumbai and demanded from him face-to-face. Despite this emotional appeal, Shinde refused to budge and insisted that Shiv Sena should leave the MVA. Last night, Thackeray left his official residence ‘Varsha’ to visit Matoshree and was welcomed by hundreds of supporters.
A few minutes ago, more Shiv Sena MLAs including Deepak Kesarkar, Mangesh Kundalkar and Sada Sarvankar reached Guwahati to join the rebel camp.
