Mandar by-election concluded with 60.05% voting: Fate of 14 candidates including Gangotri, Tirkey and Paddy imprisoned in EVMs, counting of votes will be held on June 26

The by-elections for the Mander assembly under the capital were concluded amidst tight security arrangements. Voting started at 7 am and went on till 4 pm. After the voting was over, DC Chhavi Ranjan told that till the evening 60.05% voting has been done.

He said that the figures of some booths are yet to come. He told that in the year 2019 there was 67% voting. In fact, after being sentenced to three years by a Ranchi court in the disproportionate assets case, Bandhu Tirkey lost his membership from the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. For this reason, the by-election is being held for this vacant seat.

The fate of 14 candidates contesting in an area of ​​about 3.5 lakh voters has been imprisoned in EVMs. Voting took place in 433 booths from 7 am to 4 pm. However, at many booths, voting took place for some time due to the queues of voters. Counting of votes will take place on June 26.

Shilpi Neha Tirkey has been made a candidate from the ruling Grand Alliance in the state. Tirkey is the daughter of Bandhu Tirkey, an MLA from Mandar and is contesting the by-election on a Congress ticket. On the other hand, BJP has given ticket to former MLA Gangotri Kujur. Kujur has been an MLA from this assembly constituency in 2014 as well. On the other hand, suspended BJP leader Dev Kumar Dhan is the candidate from Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM.

Tight security arrangements were in place

Tight security arrangements were made to make the polling peaceful. 170 Central Security Forces, 263 DSPs and around 3000 police personnel were deployed. On the other hand, section 144 has been imposed in Mandar assembly constituency, which will remain till the morning of June 21 to 24.
