Negligence is being done to save the submerged part of the ridge ground in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The work is not being started even after passing the tender of 37 crores. Every year the Municipal Corporation prepares the submerged part temporarily before the rains. The corporation did not even guarantee how many days the tarring would last on the submerged part.

The project was prepared to save it. But, could not get off the ground for 3 years. The Forest Department has given approval to the Municipal Corporation to start the work. Still the work has not started. To save the ridge, about 4 storey structures have to be built. This structure is to be built right above the Tibetan Market. But, it cannot be said when it will happen.

Plan made in paper for 10 years

The campaign to save the ridge has been going on for the last 10 years. In the name of saving, cement ointment is being applied on the cracks. But, this is all a hoax. Alarm bells are rising. Due to repeated excavation of the ground in the name of repair, the danger of subsidence is increasing.

This zone will be hit

The Tibetan market will have to bear the brunt of the part of the ridge that is sinking. The Padmadev complex is already in the JD of the sinking zone. Thus, there is a danger of it falling.

MC commissioner’s statement

On the whole matter, MC Commissioner Ashish Kohli says that the tender for the ridge has been handed over to the PWD department. Only the PWD department can tell why there is a delay in saving the ridge ground. The Municipal Corporation has fulfilled its responsibility by handing over the tender.
