In Meghalaya, the Congress has suffered a major setback with 12 outside MLAs leaving the party. Of the 17 Congress MLAs, 12 have joined the Trinamool Congress. For this, now senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has targeted Mamta Banerjee. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday challenged TMC to contest the election on a party ticket. Along with this, Adhir Ranjan termed it as a conspiracy to break the Congress in the Northeast.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “This conspiracy to break the Congress is happening not only in Meghalaya, but in the entire Northeast. I challenge TMC to resign as Congress MLA and contest on party ticket. Even though he has joined TMC, he is still a Congress MLA and Congress voters voted for him. If they win on TMC ticket, we will recognize your potential.

He also alleged that the TMC wants to divide the Congress and help Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, ‘PM Modi will get angry if she (Mamata Banerjee) meets Sonia Gandhi now. His actions changed soon after his nephew was summoned by the ED. Earlier, he had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi and talked about fighting together against the BJP.

Meanwhile, former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who quit the Congress, said on Thursday that 12 Congress MLAs have taken a “conscious decision” to join the Trinamool Congress. Talking to the media, he said, ‘We have decided to join TMC. This full sense of commitment towards serving the people has driven us to take this decision. Let us inform that Mukum Sangma is also one of the MLAs who left the Congress and joined TMC.
