A new way of cheating has come to the fore in Himachal Pradesh. In Navbahar of the capital Shimla, thugs sent a message of power cut on a person’s mobile. It was advised in the message that if you want to avoid disconnection, then download the Any-Desk application. As soon as the person downloaded the Any-desk application, after a while a message was received that Rs 49514 was deducted from his account. The victim has lodged an FIR in this regard by giving a complaint to the police.
Ashwini Dewan, a resident of Dewan Niwas of Comberi Cottage in Navbahar area in Shimla, told the police that on the night of June 18, around 9:30 pm, a message was received from mobile number 62897-85630 that their electricity would be cut on June 20. There was also a suggestion in the message to save electricity connection by downloading the Any-desk application. Seeing the message, he panicked and downloaded the Any-Desk application from the Play Store.
After this, a message was received on his mobile that Rs 49514 was deducted from the bank account. When he reached the bank the next day, the bank manager confirmed that the amount was deducted from the account. On Tuesday, the police has registered a case against unknown thugs at Navbahar police station. Police has started searching for the accused.
Narveer Singh Rathore, Additional SP, Cyber Crime Shimla, says that people need to be aware. Some cyber thugs are making people a victim of fraud by taking their hoax. For this, he is adopting new methods. He says that if such messages and calls come, then the police should be informed immediately.
