Mundka Metro Fire: ‘People were jumping from the third floor seeing the flames’, victims and eyewitnesses narrated the ordeal

A massive fire broke out in a building in Delhi’s Mundka area on Friday. At least 27 people were killed in the flames that broke out near the metro station’s pillar number 544 at around 4:40 pm. But the death toll is likely to rise as rescue operations continue and more than 29 people – 24 women and 5 men – are still reported missing. What caused the fire in this episode is a question, and to find the answer, the investigation team of Republic Media Network reached the spot and spoke to the victims and eyewitnesses.

Describing the incident, a victim said, “My mother was looking for me for more than an hour, I was lying unconscious there…Thankfully, someone saw me, picked me up and brought me home.”

Another victim said, “When the power went out, we came down to see what happened, there was smoke everywhere… Some people broke the windows of the building, then we jumped from the third floor… Though many were trapped.” remained and could not escape.”

‘Fire brigade, ambulance one hour late’

Another eyewitness said, “Around 4 o’clock we were all together, a meeting was going on when the fire broke out… there was smoke everywhere… we didn’t know what happened, how it happened… that’s it, every Somebody started panicking my friend…she lives right behind my house and she has small kids…her husband also didn’t return, and now she is also nowhere.I have 3 to 4 acquaintances who are missing.None To be seen..I checked all the hospital. The victim accused the administration saying, “Fire brigade late, Ambulance late…After many calls, they came.”

An eyewitness speaking to Republic said, “I was sitting outside around 4:15 pm when we got to know about the fire. We ran to get the ropes…helped people come down, but then Can’t even say for sure how many survived, and how many were burnt alive… There were many inside the building… The fire brigade came after an hour.”

‘Nobody to report missing’

A panicked relative said, “I got a call around evening that there was a fire in Madhu’s building. Even today, about 3 times we have come to know about her whereabouts, but there is no information about whether she is dead or alive.”

Two people Harish Goyal and Varun Goel have also been arrested in connection with the incident. According to the police, Manish Lakra, identified as the owner of the building, is currently absconding.
