Independent MP Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow (May 9). The politician-couple will fly to Delhi on Monday, May 9, where they will meet the Home Minister along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Reacting to the visit, BJP leader Ram Kadam reaffirmed his support for the Rana couple and said, “The court has shocked the Maharashtra government for how they misused police power and booked them for sedition. Police tortured him in jail and he is out now.”
“Navneet Rana is a respected member of Parliament representing over 20 lakh people. Her husband Ravi Rana is a member of the Legislative Assembly. So meeting the Home Minister is a routine visit. When Shiv Sena goons attacked her, she The Center had given him protection. We support his issue on Lord Hanuman ji.”
Navneet Rana gave a new challenge to CM Thackeray
After a high-voltage drama in Maharashtra, Navneet and Ravi Rana walked out of jail on May 5, a day after a Mumbai court granted them bail. He was jailed for over a week after he was charged with sedition for reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside CM Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’.
On Sunday, May 8, Navneet Rana, who was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai due to his spondylosis, was discharged today. Talking to the media after being discharged from the hospital, Navneet Rana said, “If reciting Hanuman Chalisa is a crime then I am ready to spend ten years in jail.”
Further, he challenged CM Thackeray to contest against him. The Amravati MP said, “I challenge you (Uddhav Thackeray)
Notably, Navneet Rana has also alleged that she faced a lot of ‘torture’ in jail where casteist slurs were thrown at her. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also sought a report from the Maharashtra government on his allegations.
Meanwhile, Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat has informed that they are likely to file contempt of court petition against both of them for talking to the media after Navneet Rana’s acquittal. While granting bail, the court put conditions on both of them to refrain from talking to the media on the issue.
