NIA action against Dawood Ibrahim’s aides; Raids at 20 places in Mumbai

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids at 20 locations in Mumbai. Raids were conducted against the associates of gangster Dawood Ibrahim and some hawala operators in the financial capital.

Searches started at many places in the premises of the accomplices of the underworld don. Raids are on at Nagpada, Goregaon, Borivali, Santacruz, Mumbra, Bhendi Bazaar and other places.

Many hawala operators, real estate managers and drug smugglers linked to Dawood are also on the radar of the NIA. The agency had registered a case in this regard in February and started raids today.

ED attaches assets of Dawood Ibrahim’s aide in Thane

Last month, the Enforcement Directorate seized a flat in Thane in the name of an associate of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar. A flat worth Rs 55 lakh has been attached in connection with a money-laundering probe after a provisional order for attachment of immovable property under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) was issued against Mumtaz Ejaz Shaikh.

The ED alleged that the flat was “forcibly” taken by Iqbal Kaskar and others from Suresh Devichand Mehta, a Thane-based real estate developer. “Mehta was running the business of construction with his partner through his firm Darshan Enterprises. The accused Iqbal Kaskar, Mumtaz Shaikh and Israr Ali Jameel Syed, in the name of Mumtaz Ejaz Shaikh, were arrested in Thane due to their close association with underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar. Succeeded in extortion of a flat.
