Every year in October, the Nobel Committee recognizes and awards individuals or organizations based on their contributions in specific fields. The award is given on the basis of work done in the fields of physiology or medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, peace work and economic science.
The Nobel Prize is awarded to those who have “provided the greatest benefit to mankind”. The Nobel Prizes were established in memory of Alfred Nobel in 1896 in accordance with his will.
The Nobel Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel and the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences have been awarded 609 times between 1901 and 2021 to 975 people and organizations. A total of 943 individuals and 25 organizations have been honored. Many of these people have been awarded the Nobel Prize more than once.

Nobel Peace Prize 2021
Maria Resa and Dmitry Muratov “for their efforts to protect freedom of expression”. María Resa continues to use freedom of expression to expose abuse of power, use of violence, and growing authoritarianism in her country, the Philippines. On the other hand, for several decades Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov has defended freedom of expression in Russia in the midst of challenging circumstances.
Nobel Prize in Literature 2021
Abdulrazak Gurnaah “for his uncompromising and compassionate admission of the effects of colonialism and the refugee’s fate into the gap between cultures and continents.” .
Nobel Prize in Physics 2021
Soukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Perisic have been given “for their unprecedented contributions to the understanding of complex systems”. Tsukuro Manebe, the first person to explore the interaction between radiation balance and vertical transport of air masses, explored principles to help build climate models that help detect weather patterns.
The methods of Claus Hasselmann proved that global warming is the result of human emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and the discoveries of Giorgio Paris made understandable many different and apparently completely random phenomena. His discovery is not limited to physics alone. It extends to other fields, including mathematics, biology, neuroscience and machine learning.

Benjamin List and David Macmillan “for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis” List and Macmillan invent a device that facilitates molecular fabrication, which helps catalyze the production of asymmetric molecules.
Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2021
David Julius and Ardame Patapoutian “for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch”.
Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences
David Card award “for his empirical contributions to labor economics”. Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbes “for his methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relations”. All three economists have won prizes for their social experiments. which “provide new insights about the labor market and show what conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect from natural experiments.”
