Pithoragarh, Jagran Correspondent: The fast unto death, which has been going on for the last 56 days demanding the creation of Didihat district, has ended on the assurance of Congress leader and former CM Harish Rawat. Harish Rawat broke the fast by drinking juice to both the fasting fast unto death. Addressing the huge crowd present on the occasion, he said that Congress should form the government in 2022 and will get Didihat district.
On Wednesday, as part of his program, former CM Harish Rawat reached Didihat after the Constitution Honor Yatra program in Devlathal. A huge crowd gathered on the information of his arrival at Didihat. When Harish Rawat reached Didihat, the people including Congressmen gave him a warm welcome. Shri Rawat first reached the place of fast unto death. Where he talked to the agitators who were agitating for the demand of creating a district. He said that Didihat district would be created as soon as the Congress government is formed in 2022. On this assurance, District Banao United Sangharsh Morcha decided to end the agitation. Harish Rawat broke the fast by drinking juice to Deepak Harsh and Rajendra Bora, who were on fast unto death.
Later, while addressing the meeting organized at Ramlila Maidan, Harish Rawat said that the public has been disillusioned with the BJP government of the state. People are trying to get rid of this government. In the past, he called the Shaheed Samman Yatra of the BJP a hoax. Speaking in the context of Didihat district, he said that Congress is fighting from this area for the last thirty years. BJP is representing here for last 25 years. Even today nothing is visible in Didihat except the work done by Congress in the past. He appealed to the public to end the exile of Congress now.
Speaking in the meeting, former MLA Mayukh Mehar said that the people of Didihat had sown acacia till now, due to which they were not getting mangoes to eat. He asked to tell one work of Drinking Water Minister and MLA Vishan Singh Chufal. He said that only Congress will develop Didihat. A dozen Congress leaders including Pradeep Pal addressed the gathering.
