Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Om Prakash Soni on Friday presented his explanation amid the threats being received from gangsters and the scams in Punjab’s health department as a minister. In the press conference, Soni was accompanied by a personal lawyer. OP Soni said that he has come to talk about sanitizer purchase and SPI insurance company.

For a few days, the name of Sony has been jumping in the sanitizer scam. There are allegations that the sanitizer that was bought during the Corona period under the Congress government was very expensive. In his clarification on this, Soni said that rumors are being spread that sanitizers worth Rs 2250 crores were procured in entire Punjab, whereas this is not the case. In Punjab, sanitizers worth only Rs 2.50 crore were purchased.

He said that in the last 35 years of his political journey, he has only served Punjab. Whatever is being said about him is not true.

Purchase at the rate of Government of India

Soni said that the purchase of sanitizer was done at the rate fixed by the Government of India. The rate at which the Punjab Government bought the sanitizer, at the same rate, the Government of India was also buying the sanitizer from the same company. So the question of buying by increasing the rate does not arise.

Sanitizer bought at different rate at the time of election

Soni clarified that the sanitizer bought at the time of elections was cheap. The sanitizer that was procured for the doctors was expensive. The specifications of the sanitizer were the reason behind this. That’s why there was a difference in the rates of both.

Private hospitals had refused treatment

Soni also gave his stand on the dispute related to Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme. Soni said that this scheme was being run jointly by the central and state governments. The Center was spending 60 percent and the states were spending 40 percent. In this scheme, the Congress government gave benefit to 45 lakh people. During Corona, private hospitals refused to treat under this scheme. Actually, the insurance company was not paying claims to private hospitals. For this, meetings were also held. The first meeting was held in Amritsar itself. A total of 4 meetings were held to resolve the matter.
