Railway News: Railways will soon start using ‘OTP’ (One Time Password) based ‘Digital Lock’ system to provide security against theft of articles in freight and parcel trains. A senior official gave this information on Tuesday.
This system is commonly used in trucks, where a ‘smart lock’ is provided which is fitted with a ‘GPS’ (Global Positioning System). With the help of this, the location of the vehicle’s presence is known and the possibility of goods theft is reduced.
Officials said that this system will be completely based on secure OTP, which will be used to open and close the doors of the train compartment.
An official said, “Access to the goods will not be possible during the journey. The compartment will be opened through OTP and will be closed through another OTP. Now, we seal the coaches and ensure that the seals remain intact at every station. ,
He informed that at each station, an OTP will be received by a railway employee that the loading or unloading of goods has been completed, to ensure that the system remains smooth.
Officials said that at least three railway zones are actively involved in identifying companies that can provide this service to them at an affordable rate.
