In the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, an SUV hit people attending a Christmas parade on Sunday. The vehicle indiscriminately targeted more than 20 adults and children.
City Police Chief Dan Thompson said “a few” people had died, but did not give the total number of casualties. One person has been taken into custody, but no information was given as to why.
Fire Department Chief Steven Howard said 11 adults and 12 children were injured in the accident, who were admitted to hospital by department officials. It is not yet known how many injured people were admitted to hospitals by other people.
Thompson said police had also seized the vehicle and the investigation was ongoing. As the ASUV (car) proceeded to break through the barricades, Waukesha police opened fire to stop the vehicle. No passer-by was injured in the bullets fired by the police and it is not yet known whether the driver was shot or not.
In a video of the incident, an SUV is seen breaking barriers and hitting the people taking out the parade. Many people were making the parade live on their social media accounts, due to which many people also saw this horrific incident live.
