The old checkbooks of Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India have become useless from the beginning of this month i.e. 1st October. These three banks have been merged with Punjab National Bank. After the merger, the old check book of the three banks has been made normal by issuing a new order. This has increased the problems of the people.

In some major cities, including Raipur, where these banks had branches, they had nearly one lakh customers with checkbooks. But 25 percent of these are such, who have not received a new check book after the merger. His banking transactions were being done through this, so it is stalled due to non-availability of new check book. Due to this, many financial transactions of businessmen as well as common people have come to a halt.

Punjab National Bank officials say that customers of all three banks were already informed that their old check books would not be valid after October 1. Under the new system, after applying for a check book in the bank, the check book in their name is being delivered directly to their homes. Due to the issue of check book from the headquarters itself, it takes some time.

After the merger of all the three banks, now their IFSC code has also changed. Therefore, under no circumstances, now financial transactions from the old check book can be validated. In such a situation, people will have to apply for a new check book in the branches of Punjab National Bank.

Before these three banks, Allahabad Bank was merged with Indian Bank. Because of this the check book of this bank has also become old. The rules for this bank came into effect from 1st April 2020. The merger of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India into Punjab National Bank has come into effect from April 1, 2019.

That’s why the bankers say that enough time was given to change the check book. SMS were also sent to the customers on their mobile numbers to get new check books. PNB is issuing check books with new IFSC and MICR codes to the customers of the merged banks.

Due to the change of IFSC code of all the three banks, there are technical problems in online payment as well. After going to the payment mode, one has to search for a new code or get information from banking branches.

Branches will be closed where there is absolutely no need
After the merger of the three banks, PNB has also started a new survey. If the branches of the three merged banks are close by, then the branches will be opened or closed as per the requirement. Where the branches of the merged banks will be nearby, they will be closed. Banks will also be expanded according to the need of the people and the number of bank customers.

However, even before this, many branches were closed after the merger of several banks into State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda. Similar plans are being adopted by other banks as well. Chamber President Amar Parwani says that after merger with banks, not only check books are invalid, the account numbers of customers also change. Along with the common people, traders also have to get a new pass book. In this case, there are many problems as well. Therefore, banks should be given additional facilities after the merger.
