Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award in Mumbai on Sunday. The award was presented on April 24, 2022, on the occasion of the 80th death anniversary of Swar Kokila Master Deenanath Mangeshkar. The Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award aims to recognize and honor exceptional individuals in the fields of music, drama, art, medicine and social work.
The inaugural award was instituted this year in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar. Swarkokila passed away at the age of 92 on February 6, 2022 due to multiple organ failures. After inaugurating and laying foundation stones of several development projects in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi first arrived in Mumbai to attend the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award.

All three sisters of Lata didi took to the stage to honor Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. After receiving the award, PM Modi paid tribute to the late great singer and spoke about her contribution to the field of music over several decades. The family and Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smriti Pratishthan Charitable Trust had issued a statement stating that the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award will be given every year to an individual who has made pioneering, illustrious and exemplary contributions to the nation and society.
After receiving the award, the Prime Minister said, “I feel proud that Lata didi was my elder sister. I have always received immense love like an elder sister from Lata didi who has given the gift of love and emotion to generations. Greater privilege than this.” What can be more. Music is also a sadhana and emotion. Music can take you to the heights of patriotism and sense of duty. We all are fortunate that we have seen this power of music in the form of Lata didi. Let us see with our own eyes. I have had the privilege of seeing him.”
The PM said, “When the award is in the name of an elder sister like Lata didi, it is a symbol of her affinity and love for me. I dedicate this award to all the countrymen. Just like Lata didi belonged to the people.” In the same way, this award given to me in her name belongs to the people. Lata didi gave voice to India before independence. The country’s journey of these 75 years was associated with her notes. Lata ji’s father received this award. The name of ji Dinanath Mangeshkar ji is also attached. We all countrymen are indebted to the Mangeshkar family for their contribution towards music.
PM Narendra Modi, the first personality to receive the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, said, “Lata didi was older than her age and deeds. Lata didi achieved a place in music that people considered her to be an icon of Maa Saraswati. Her voice has inspired her for nearly 80 years. He had left his mark in the music world till date. Along with music, the consciousness of patriotism that was within Didi was his father. During the freedom struggle, Dinanath ji sang a song written by Veer Savarkar in the program of the British Viceroy in Shimla. and performed on his theme.”
