BENGALURU, INS: The Karnataka Congress is considering fielding Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the Rajya Sabha from the state to infuse enthusiasm in the party ahead of next year’s assembly elections. Congress sources have confirmed that state unit chief DK Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah have already approached Priyanka Gandhi on the matter.

He has reportedly explained to Priyanka that her grandmother Indira Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi had earlier contested and won from Karnataka. Indira Gandhi contested from Chikmagalur in 1978. Sonia Gandhi contested from Bellary in 1999. Congress sources said Priyanka Gandhi has assured to take a decision on the matter after holding discussions with senior party leaders.

Yeddyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra may get Legislative Council ticket

According to Pretr, BY Vijayendra, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, may get a ticket for the Legislative Council elections. It is said that in the meeting of the Karnataka BJP’s core committee on Saturday, it was discussed to recommend the names of other candidates including BY Vijayendra to the central leadership for the Legislative Council elections. According to party sources, the possibility of sending Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Rajya Sabha again from Karnataka was also considered by the committee. In this meeting, BJP’s state in-charge National General Secretary Arun Singh, State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Ministers BS Yediyurappa and Jagdish Shettar, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, National General Secretary CT Ravi and other senior leaders were present.

The biennial elections for the seven seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council will be held on June 3. At the same time, elections for the four seats of the Legislative Council will be held on June 13. Biennial elections to the four seats falling vacant in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka will be held on June 10.
