Punjab Election: Congress has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Congress has given ticket to actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika from Moga constituency amid long-running rumours. Malvika Sood will contest the state assembly elections from Moga. However, the sitting MLA Harjot Kamal expressed dissatisfaction on this matter and has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Malvika Sood had joined the Congress party in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. After Congress announced Malvika Sood’s candidature from Moga, Kamal called a meeting with his elected sarpanch and a group of councillors.
‘Workers, local leaders humiliated by Congress’: Harjot Kamal
Earlier, MLA Kamal had said that even if Congress does not give him a ticket, he will fight the election with its support. After the induction of Malvika Sood, dozens of councilors and sarpanches of Moga constituency had resigned in protest against the party’s decision.
After joining BJP the MLA said, “I am starting a new phase in life; I have worked for a party for 21 years. I am grateful to my supporters and allies of Moga, they are my family. In Moga, SAD was winning for years, then in 2017 Congress won.”
The sitting MLA from Moga explained that it was not easy for him in 2017 as AAP had a strong face from the constituency. He alleged that Congress did not show any displeasure even after denying ticket to a loyal worker and sitting MLA.
Kamal said that all Congress workers and local leaders were humiliated by the Congress party. We remained at the front. Along with this, he has targeted the Congress for choosing a star face and ignoring the workers who stood firm for the party during all the political storms.

Malvika Sood was received by Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Channi exuded confidence that Malvika would serve the people of Punjab with complete honesty and integrity.
According to the Election Commission, elections will be held for 117 electoral seats of the 16th Legislative Assembly of the state in February.
