Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor appealed to the voters to vote extensively in the by-elections to Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar assembly seat on Thursday.
A total of 1,64,698 voters, including 1,899 voters in the age group of 18-19 years, are registered to vote in this constituency.
Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said, “Polling for the Rajendra Nagar bypoll began at 7 am amid tight security. Actress Sonam Kapoor in a video message urged voters to exercise their franchise and cast their votes in a big way. Appealed.”
The video was posted on the New Delhi district’s Facebook page shortly before polling began.
In fact, Sonam Kapoor was chosen as the district ‘icon’ by the election officials and her pictures have been used on posters and social media to reach out to a large number of voters, especially the youth, in Rajendra Nagar.
In his message, Kapoor said, “I appeal to all the voters of Rajendra Nagar Assembly Constituency to vote vigorously along with their family members and friends in the by-election to be held on June 23.”
