Many types of medicinal properties have been found in Gathuvan, a rare and extinct species of rice bowl. Regular use of this rice is claimed to cure bone diseases. Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in association with Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) Mumbai has done research on this rice variety for four years. During this, such elements were found in Gathuvan which are beneficial in the treatment of bones.
Scientists of Agricultural University are claiming this. However, preliminary research has only been done on rats. Its results have been good. Now the scope of its trial will be expanded. Due to the length of the plant, it also takes more time to ripen than other varieties of paddy.
As a result, farmers almost stopped its production. Dr. Deepak Sharma, Principal Scientist at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, told that to increase the yield and its usefulness, its length is being reduced by mutation method i.e. mutation breeding. In addition, the ripening period is also being reduced. After this the farmers will be motivated for this production. This will also save the variety of knotweed.
Agricultural scientists told – in this case the traditional knowledge proved to be correct
Agricultural scientists told that old varieties of paddy have medicinal properties. Some varieties cure different ailments based on conventional wisdom. For example, Gathuvan has properties to relieve joint pain and Laicha has the properties of curing skin related problems.
Now it is being proved on scientific basis that the traditional knowledge of the farmers regarding the varieties of paddy is correct. In the past, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University has also researched varieties of paddy that have proved beneficial in diseases like diabetes and anemia.
Considering making paste
IGKV’s principal scientist Dr. Deepak Sharma told that medicinal properties have been found in Gathuvan rice. Scientifically it has been proved that it can prove to be effective in curing Arthritis disease. The making of its paste is being discussed with the scientists of Bhabha Atomic.
Medicinal properties found in many varieties
The traditional varieties of paddy in the state have many qualities. These have been identified on scientific basis. Our scientists have worked with BARC. Medicinal properties have been found in many varieties.
