Amit Khare, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, has been appointed as an advisor to PM Narendra Modi. Amit Khare had retired from the post of Union Education Secretary on 30 September. Medha scam exposed, took initiative to stop witch murder
Amit Khare’s name comes first among those who took the initiative to stop the practice of witch-killing in Jharkhand. While being the Deputy Commissioner of Chaibasa, he launched a social awareness campaign against witch killing. This started a debate against witch-killing at the national level. Patna was the District Magistrate of Darbhanga and prevented the merit scam by conducting medical and engineering examinations in Bihar.

Also prepared digital media policy
Amit Khare also held the additional charge of Union Information and Broadcasting Secretary till August 2021. Launched a dozen satellite channels including DD Jharkhand during his tenure. At the same time, several steps were taken to strengthen the print and electronic media including digital media policy. Finalized the policy regarding OTT platform. The International Film Festival brought global recognition to Goa.
Amati Khare becomes the first Commissioner of Commercial Taxes of Jharkhand
Amit Khare was made the first Commissioner of Commercial Taxes after the bifurcation of Jharkhand from Bihar. He also held the post of Education, Finance and Development Commissioner in the state from Principal Secretary to the Governor. Amit Khare’s wife Nidhi Khare is also an IAS.
