Roger Federer retired

The tennis star has released a detailed statement on Twitter regarding his retirement.

“Of all the gifts tennis has given me over the years, from my tennis family and beyond, the greatest are, without a doubt, the people I’ve met along the way; my friends, my competitors and all the fans who love the sport.” Give life to Today I want to share a news with all of you.

As many of you know, over the past three years I have faced challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I worked hard to get back in form. But I also know the capabilities and limitations of my body and I came to know about it only recently. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches in 24 years. Tennis has treated me better than ever and I need to know when it is time to end my career.

Next week’s Laver Cup will be my last ATP event. I will definitely play more tennis in the future, but not go to any Grand Slams or Tour. It’s a tough decision, because I’ll cherish everything the tennis tour has given me. But I have a lot to celebrate as well. I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world. I was gifted with a special talent for playing tennis and I have used this talent to a level I never imagined and for much longer than I thought possible.

I especially want to thank my wife Mirka, who stood by me every minute. He prepared me before every final. Watched my countless matches even though I was pregnant for over 8 months and put up with my antics with my team for over 20 years. I would also like to thank my 4 children who supported me all the time. Always creating wonderful memories for me in new places during this time.”

Federer has not played any match since July 2021

Federer made this announcement after the end of the US Open, which could possibly be the last tournament for 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams. After this, an era in tennis will end.

Federer has not played a tournament since Wimbledon in July 2021. In the meantime, he has gone through knee surgery several times, so the news of his retirement is not that shocking.

In July this year, he appeared at the All England Club at an event to mark the 100th anniversary of the Center Court. During this, he said that he hoped to get back on the court “one more time”. He also said that he would make a comeback at the Swiss Indoors tournament in October.

Federer last played on July 7, 2021, when he lost 6–3, 7–6(4), 6–0 to Hubert Hurkaz on Center Court in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Shortly thereafter, Federer had surgery on his right knee, his third in a year and a half.
